Drupal creator Dries Buytaert said that releasing the next version of Drupal, is on the top of his priority list at the moment. However, it still requires a lot of work including debugging and other miscellaneous fixings. Acquia, the lead commercial sponsor behind Drupal, announced new training, hosting and distribution efforts to further spread the growing popularity of Drupal deployments.
Drupal is radically expanding in terms of its distributions and versions of the software, including the core application along with specific, contributed modules to meet market needs. Buytaert said that there are now at least 19 Drupal distributions available, while his company, Acquia, is now in the process of building its own distribution called Drupal Common, which he described as a social media CMS.
