iPad Sale Crosses 1 Million: A Social Indicator?

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

Apple announced the sale of their one millionth iPad on Friday, that is,  just after four weeks of its launch on April 3rd. According to Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs, a whopping number of 300,000 iPads were sold within twenty four hours of the launch.

The ongoing trend suggests that Apple’s sale should smoothly hit a one million mark every month and possibly much more once the iPad bangs the international market. The press affirmed yesterday that the App Store now has 200,000 apps, with the number shooting up from 185,000 as recorded three weeks ago. Approximately fourteen million eBooks and apps have been downloaded from the iBookstore and App Store respectively on the iPad, which denotes around fourteen downloads per month per device. The gigantic sales figure conclusively envisions an era of portable keyboard-less elegant computing devices.

iPad Fuels the Flex vs. Ajax Conflict

Thursday, April 29th, 2010

The launch of the iPad has spurred an old debate – Which is better, Ajax or Flex. The fact that iPad does not support Flash has not only stirred the dormant argument, but also brought up questions about the future of RIA technology.

Both the technologies are essentially different with a distinct set of strengths and weaknesses. Experts suggest that Apple’s decision has nothing to do with the merit of any technology in particular.

About Flex: Back in 2004, Adobe launched Flex software development kit to create Rich Internet Applications. Adobe’s Flex is a framework that lets a programmer compile an XML based ActionScript into a Flash SWT file. Adobe’s Flash is a widely accepted tool for refreshing websites, appending features like animation and games. However, Flash requires the browser to install the Flash plug-in. This can slow down your system and use more resources than using the native browser JavaScript support.

About AJAX: AJAX is a methodology for producing RIAs. It is normally used on top of web pages to add functionalities like pop ups and shadow boxes, and smart features like drag-and-drop. AJAX is definitely more popular due to its search engine friendly attribute and no Plug-in requirement.

Top 3 iPad Apps for Business Users

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Since the launch of iPad, more than 450,000 devices have been sold. The exhaustive app store has almost any app that users can ask for. Here is a rundown of the favourite apps of business users.

GoodReader – This is the best PDF reader for the iPhone and iPad. What makes GoodReader special is that it can not only view local files including PDF, Word, Excel, PNG, TXT, JPEG and more, but you can download files from a URL or connect to a web server.

Things – This is a perfect app for small business users who are already part of the Things ecosystem. Creating to-do lists along with managing tasks is easy and you can sync wirelessly with Things for Mac.

Bento – Bento for iPad can be used stand alone or with Bento for Mac and Bento for iPhone. Like Things, it is much more similar to the Mac version than the iPhone counterpart. You can use the built-in templates or create your own and do things like manage expenses, address books, projects and more.
