This year, Web Spiders was a sponsor of the OpSource SaaS Summit 2009, the largest SaaS (Software as a Service) event of the year with over 500 industry attendees. Held in San Francisco from March 11 to 13, 2009, this was one of the largest on-demand industry gatherings in the world.

This year’s agenda at SaaS Summit 2009 focused on the various opportunities emerging for SaaS, Web and Cloud computing companies, even during the present economic downturn. A large number of integrators and other service providers from SaaS and Web companies interacted with industry leaders, venture capitalists, industry analysts, and the press, to share their ideas and chart the future growth path of this technology.

According to Stephen Harris, Web Spiders’ Vice President (North America), “In the SaaS community, there is a lot of optimism in these challenging financial times.  There were many questions around how to make the transition or to build new apps directly to SaaS. Web Spiders addressed how companies can take advantage of SaaS to lower costs and increase productivity even during a recessionary period. In a word, SaaS is ‘hot’.”

At the conference, there was good energy around the SaaS platform; and it was evident that ISVs are considering a transition to SaaS even in the current economic climate. The investor community expressed its confidence in this new model of software deployment, and clearly conveyed their intention of investing in worthy SaaS products in many different categories.
